Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, 22 mile journey starts at the intersection of E Colorado Blvd and US Alt Highway 14. The speed limit over this route is 35 miles per hour, but you’ll be so enthralled by the beauty of this byway that you will drive even slower.
The best time to drive on this byway is any time of year, but Fall offers the most colorful drive through the Canyon, as Mother nature paints the leaves in shades of yellow, gold and red to accent the evergreen backdrop.
The Northern Great Plains Grasslands rides into picturesque waterfalls, fresh water fisheries, pine forests, and miles of hiking trails where one can spend a day and take advantage of the great things nature has waiting just for you. Bridal Veil Falls and Roughlock Falls are must-sees along the route, Spearfish Creek lines the canyon floor while canyon waterfalls make for popular roadside attractions as well, a location for several scenes in the movies.
