Route Overview

Transfagarasan Highway is one of the best motorcycle roads and one of the most dangerous motorcycle roads in Europe. The road climbs to an altitude of 2,042 metres (6,699 ft), making it the second highest mountain pass in Romania after the Transalpina and passes over the Fagaras mountains in Transylvania, Romania at 2000 metres. Built as a strategic military route, the 90 km of twists and turns run north to south across the tallest sections of the Southern Carpathians, between the highest peak in the country, Moldoveanu, and the second highest, Negoiu. The road is not for the faint hearted and is a scary drive in places with large sections of non-barriered road. The roads is a lovely and serves various jaw dropping scenics along the way.
