Route Overview

The Forgotten World Highway rated one of the 10 worst roads in New Zealand is one of the most scenic drives in New Zealand. This scenic route winds through the four mountain saddles alongside spectacular Tangarakau Gorge. It is one of the most memorable road challenging & secluded testing the riders patience and skill abound in twisted & turns roads stretching 149 kilometers.

The road has the potential of a good trip memories as it offers non stop changing landscapes between Taumarunui and Stratford, roads that goes through gorges, tunnel, dense forest, sheer drops, narrow sections and tight climbs on saddles. The roads quality is not so good and is slippery when wet, so amateur drivers need to be a little more careful.

Overall drive is definitely worth it and not to be missed.
