Overview

The Skippers Canyon Road is one of the most popular scenic roads in Southland, New Zealand. Its counted amongst the most dangerous roads in the world as its unpaved, very narrow and steep with sheer drops of several hundred metres.

With sweeping views along the gorge and the Shotover River this route has stunning views & countless photo opportunities.

Through twisty hair pin corners, high elevations and steep grades this road is majestic to drive on.

The condition of the road is little worse as there are deep pot holes, the roads are little narrow for vehices to pass each other and also there are no guard rails for riders protection.

One of the most famous places on this road is the Skippers suspension bridge over the Shotover River near Queenstown in Central Otago. It is one of the major attractions to Skippers Canyon as it spans a gorge with sheer rock faces on both sides.
